STATE APPROVALS

Each individual state’s Physical Therapy organization and/or board determines the need for continuing education requirements as they relate to relicensure.

While some states require pre-approval of continuing education programs for CEU credit, others do not.  In addition, some state organizations will accept CEUs if the course has been approved by another national or state organization.

Often, continuing education is subdivided by type of activity or category.  State organizations may define the number of CEUs acceptable for a given category.

As expectations and regulations are constantly changing, it is ultimately the responsibility of each therapist to remain up to date on the CEU requirements for relicensure in his/her own state.

To check the current status for your state, go to The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy at www.fsbpt.org/licensing/index.asp and follow the website links for your state.

At PT-On-Line Courses, we complete an annual review of each state’s Practice Act and board requirements for renewal of licensure as it relates to continuing education.

As of February, 2008, our interpretation of the various guidelines allows us to meet the needs of our customers across the United States as follows:

States with association or board approval for PT On-Line Courses:
Arkansas
Kentucky - approved for courses 3.0 contact hours or longer.
Oklahoma

States accepting CEUs for courses approved by other state/national associations or boards:
Alaska
Arizona – home study, category B, 5.0 hours maximum per review period
Georgia
Mississippi

If your state is not listed in one of the above categories, it is likely that we are unable to meet your CEU needs at this time.  However, check with your state to determine if your board will allow you to apply for individual CEU approval (we will assist you in obtaining necessary information such as course description and objectives, author biography, etc.)
